Dude pays $800 for a 78-sq-foot apartment in Midtown of NYC. Props to him for making a semi-cool space out of it, but no thanks.
I pay $500 to live with three other (awesome) dudes, two floors, three bathrooms, two fireplaces, two parking spots, roof access and it’s in the neighborhood I want in Chicago.
Every time I go to NYC, I love it, I really do. Yet there is no way in hell I could afford the rent there! It’s the one thing that I cannot get over and I just don’t understand how people make it there. You have to work four jobs to afford to live there and since you’re working four jobs you’re never in your damn apartment you pay so much for!
Especially for someone like me trying to be a musician this seems impossible. What do you do? Rent another super expensive practice space? Then if you want to tour outside of the city (I get it that NYC has backline and you carry a guitar on a train) you have to have a car and you can’t park it anywhere!
New York, I love you, just get your rent shit figured out and maybe maybe one day I will consider living in you.
