Well, no more waiting, the first show is here.
For any of you who don’t know, Archie Powell & The Exports is my new band that I have been doing with members of one of my old bands The Box Social.  The weird part is that this has been a totally different experience than most projects I have ever been in.
First of all, I currently live in Chicago while the rest of the guys are in Madison.  I kind of got the job after coercing the main dude to move to Chicago and offering my services to play bass if he did.  I think I was officially handed the job over IM which was fine since I had played with them before, but that’s just interesting to think back on.  Everyone will be coming here sooner or later, but it has been a weird experience to drive up to practice since I haven’t done that since my Freshman year of college.
Second, we already have an EP in the can and around 14 songs in our repertoire with pretty solid plans to put an LP in the can by January 2010.  I have played in bands where we had maybe seven songs after a year of being together (seriously…) let alone being in the double digits within months.  I’ve only been up to Madison twice to practice with the full band but everyone knows their shit and we learn songs like it’s nobody’s business.
Lastly, and this is the most amazing fact, all the stumbling and fumbling of being in a band is gone.  I’ve played with these guys before and through our combined experiences we kind of have the right idea of the steps to take and the mistakes to avoid.  Plus, with everyone being out of college and in the real world we don’t have things getting in the way.  Obviously the post-college world has its own challenges - you know, like rent - but it’s a lot easier when they’re at least your decisions to make.
So basically, I’m pretty psyched to be playing good music again and if any of you out there want to check out the tunes, please meander on over to the Myspace page and take a listen.  We will actually be giving away the first five track EP for free download come June so stick around for that.
Adam Export out.
PS - The flyer was made by the keyboardist in the band, Ryan.  He does some pretty kick ass artwork I will most likely be purchasing in the future and will share with you all when I make my selections.  You can check out a lot of his stuff over at his website, but remember, I called dibs.
